I picked this book up during one of the hardest seasons of my life, and I’m so grateful I did. The author, Tera’s words genuinely felt like a friend sitting across from me, telling me I wasn’t alone. Her honesty about workplace harassment hit close to home and I’ve been there, stayed quiet, and paid the price. Reading how she found her voice gave me permission to find mine.

Growing up without my father shaped so much of who I became, and reading these reflections on her own father’s absence was like looking in a mirror I didn’t know existed. She captures that specific kind of ache… the questions you carry, the gaps you learn to steer through… What stayed with me most was her mother’s strength and how she honors it.

This isn’t the kind of memoir that wraps everything up with a bow. It truly keepts is very real about the mess, the setbacks, the moments where faith feels like all you have left. Would defo recommend this one for sure.

I’m not usually someone who reads memoirs, but a coworker wouldn’t stop talking about this one. What got me was how she reframes survival not as just getting by, but as an act of defiance. That shift in perspective has changed how I see my own struggles. Recommended.
